European Parliament Advances EU-U.S. Tariff Reductions

Preview

The European Parliament yesterday adopted its negotiating position on proposals to reduce tariffs on certain imports from the United States, moving in line with the July 2025 EU-U.S. Framework Agreement. The Parliament’s vote clears the way for trilogues to finalize these proposals.

AmCham Sweden welcomes the Parliament’s decision as a necessary step toward a more predictable transatlantic marketplace. This move sends the right signal to businesses that have faced significant uncertainty over the past year.

While AmCham Sweden continues to oppose broad-based tariffs, the Framework Agreement remains the most realistic route to securing a more constructive trade and investment climate given current political priorities on both sides of the Atlantic.

We call on the Parliament and Member States to conclude trilogues swiftly. Once the tariff reductions are approved, the EU and the U.S. can return to advancing the cooperation envisioned in the Framework Agreement across a range of areas that benefit Swedish and American businesses alike. We look to both sides to continue honoring their commitments throughout this process.
