April 19–25, members of the AmChams in Europe (ACE) delegation, including leadership from AmCham Sweden, convened in Washington, D.C., and Austin, Texas, for a high-level series of briefings. The delegation tackled a wide range of issues; including economic policy, trade, security, and defense, underscoring the depth and evolving nature of the transatlantic partnership.

A central theme of the trip was the shifting reality of U.S. trade policy. While the transatlantic economy remains the world’s most important commercial relationship, the policy environment is moving faster and becoming less predictable. Discussions highlighted how tariffs, export controls, digital regulation, and procurement preferences are complicating the landscape.

Despite these hurdles, practical cooperation is still advancing. The official announcement of the EU-U.S. critical minerals partnership during the visit, combined with Sweden’s recent decision to join the Pax Silica initiative, demonstrates a tangible, ongoing commitment to shared transatlantic resilience.

Ultimately, the consensus was clear: the ties binding the U.S. and Europe are deep, but they require active cultivation. To secure a stronger transatlantic future, it is vital to sustain engagement.
