As we enter the final stages of the election season, we want to ensure our members are aware of these key voting tools:
- The Federal Voting Assistance Program (FVAP), is a nonpartisan voter assistance and education program established by the Department of Defense to ensure members of the military, their family, and Americans abroad are aware of their right to vote and have the tools and resources to successfully do so - from anywhere.
- Overseas Vote, is an initiative of U.S. Vote Foundation, and also provides nonpartisan voter services for U.S. citizens overseas and uniformed services members.
An estimated 2.6 million voting-eligible American citizens live outside the United States. In the last general election in 2014, only four percent of these Americans exercised their right to vote. To help these citizens vote in the November 8th General Election, the FVAP and Overseas Vote provide absentee voting information which you can use and distribute.
Both of these sites have all the information you need to register to vote, request a ballot, learn your State's deadlines and requirements, and even check the status of your ballot after voting.
In addition, FVAP has created an absentee voting information toolkit (PDF) that your company can download, customize and distribute to eligible employees. Please contact FVAP directly at firstname.lastname@example.org or 1-800-438-VOTE if you are interested in leveraging these resources or have any questions about the upcoming election and how vote absentee.
