On Tuesday, February 2, the new "EU-US Privacy Shield" that has been negotiated to protect the transfer of data between the EU and US was announced. The three main achievements for this agreement include:
o Binding assurances that there are limitations and safeguards on US access to European citizens’ data – no indiscriminate mass surveillance.
o The creation of an Ombudsperson within the State Department.
o An annual review jointly led by Commission and Department of Commerce with support of national security experts and European DPAs.
