On the morning of November 24, AmCham Sweden members gathered at Hard Rock Cafe in Stockholm to learn about preclearance and hear the benefits of Stockholm as the aviation Hub of Scandinavia
Fredrik Jaresved, CEO for Airport City Stockholm discussed the progress of the preclearance approval process currently underway between Sweden and the U.S. – and how preclearance at Arlanda can provide substantial benefits for individual passengers and businesses, entire industries, as well as the economy of the Stockholm region and Sweden as a whole.
On May 29, 2015, Stockholm Arlanda Airport was selected by U.S. Customs and Border Protection (US CBP) as one of ten additional airports in the world with the potential to introduce U.S. preclearance.
For passengers taking a direct flight from Arlanda to the U.S., preclearance means that U.S. border controls for passengers will be conducted before boarding a plane, rather than waiting in line to clear customs after arriving in the U.S.
For 98% of travellers, screening by preclearance only takes between 30 seconds and two minutes – a considerable savings in time compared to the current procedure.
